This long sandy beach is ideal for unwinding by the water. Waves break large in Backwash, especially during low tide, making it less appropriate for swimming but even better for admiring Mother Nature.

Relax and people watch

DESCRIPTION

While the immense size of Matapalo’s waves make this beach unsafe for swimming, it remains an excellent spot for relaxing and observing the powerful strength of nature. That and a few brave surfers!

Where The Rainforest Meets The Ocean

“We took a morning on our own to walk to the beaches in front of the lodge from Pan Dulce to Matapalo Beach and swam a bit. The walk was lovely and again monkeys, a sloth, and even an anteater were seen en route. We hit the beaches at low tide and they were all beautiful.”
