Size up the waves of this beach from the lodge’s pool or yoga deck, then head down for a surf lesson. Lots of long right-breaking waves come around the point on this beach making it an excellent spot to get up and riding Costa Rican style. No experience required.

This long sandy beach is ideal for unwinding by the water. Waves break large in Backwash, especially during low tide, making it less appropriate for swimming but even better for admiring Mother Nature.

“We took a morning on our own to walk to the beaches in front of the lodge from Pan Dulce to Matapalo Beach and swam a bit. The walk was lovely and again monkeys, a sloth, and even an anteater were seen en route. We hit the beaches at low tide and they were all beautiful.”
