Local Medicine Tour

OSA PENINSULA

Discover the rainforest’s profound medicinal and edible bounty and how the region’s first indigenous peoples, local farmers, and gold miners incorporated the forests’ gifts into their cultures and everyday lives to survive and thrive. The excursion begins with a walk among Lapa Rios’ organic gardens, where Lodge staff grow a collection of medicinal plants and herbs, followed by a short drive to the trailhead where the naturalist guide will point out important medicinal plants, trees, and seeds while describing their many uses and preparations. The Osa Peninsula’s vast cornucopia of medicinal and edible plants have long been incorporated into the region’s cultural heritage while providing healing remedies, valuable nutrients, and spiritual significance—a fascinating glimpse into Costa Rican history, culture, and customs.
